Lighting fixtures are one of those things we tend to overlook in our homes… but in reality, they say a LOT about a space! We’ve got some really incredible light fixtures in the store that can spice up your home decor. And today, we’re sharing how to pick the right light fixture for your home.
And it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to update your lighting. Anytime you purchase 2 or more lighting fixtures at Third Day Market, you’ll get a 15% off discount! And by anytime, we literally mean anytime. So, let’s talk about how to update those lighting fixtures in your home!
There are a few things to consider when you’re trying to decide what lighting you need. Let’s go through each of them!
When you’re thinking about the size of a hanging lighting fixture for your space, start with the dimensions of the room you want to put it in.
The general rule is that you should take the length and width of the room in feet, add them together, and then change the measurement to inches to figure out the ideal diameter for a light fixture. So, if my room is 10 ft by 11 ft, then my ideal lighting fixture would be 21 inches wide. (It sounds random, but it totally works!)
Clearance is how much space you have between the bottom of the light fixture and the floor. In a bedroom, living room, or somewhere people do a lot of walking), you want to keep a clearance of about 7 feet. That’s enough to keep even your tallest friends from having to duck!
I am OBSESSED with this metal and beaded wood chandelier. It fits this dining room space SO well, and it adds that extra emphasis on the dining table that otherwise wouldn’t be there!
Metal & Beaded Wood Chandelier | $254.99 (available in store only) \ 16.5″ wide x 28″ high
This sounds obvious, but it can be easy to forget! This light fixture is a great example of playing off the decor already in a space to make sure the lighting adds a decorative element instead of just being “blah.”
Handwoven Rattan Pendant Light | $152.99 (available in store only) | 19.75″ diameter x 16″ high
Same thing goes for this sage velvet pendant. The texture, color, and shape give this table setup OOMPH that it’s lacking otherwise. Don’t be afraid to play around with your lighting!
Sage Green Velvet Hanging Pendant | $48.44 (available in store only) | 9″ diameter x 12.5″ high
Picking a decor piece like a table lamp or even a floor lamp depends MUCH more on furniture than the size of the room. If you want to grab a lamp to sit on a specific table, you’ll want to measure the length and width of the table and then compare that to the lamp size. In general, the ideal lamp should be no taller than 1.5 times the height of the table it’s sitting on.
From there, picking out a lamp is TOTALLY up to you! Decide what you want the lamp to add to your room. Is it more of an accent piece of decor, or a practical reading light? What colors will match the decor in the room where it’s located? Let your imagination run wild!
This rattan lamp is a great example of a table lamp that’s stylish and practical. The lamp shade and design make it great for a reading light on a bedside table or desk, but you don’t have to compromise the design!
Table Lamp with Rattan Umbrella Shade | $149.99 | 12″ diameter x 24″ high
This glass chimes and metal lamp is CALLING my name. It’s such a unique piece, and I can envision it in so many different places in my home!
Glass Chimes & Raw Metal Table Lamp | $287.29 (available in store only) | 14″ diameter x 30.5″ high
