There are two churches in Ashe County that have housed the beautiful paintings of NC Native and Fresco Artist, Ben Long since their creation in 1974. St. Mary’s is located in West Jefferson, NC just minutes from downtown. The second, Holy Trinity, is located in Glendale Springs, NC, just off off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Together, they are known as the Parish of the Holy Communion and still serve a joint congregation to this day. The paintings, unique to each separate church are as follows:
“Mary, Great with Child”
“John the Baptist”
“Mystery of Faith”
A life size rendition of “The Last Supper”
Mr. Long was most recently in the area in 2012 to touch up his work, and make sure that the paintings were able to be enjoyed by audiences for years to come. These two churches are a must see while visiting Ashe County, NC.
